The overwhelming feeling of pure joy and happiness after engagement fades in the background as we start planning our wedding. We start feeling stressed. This is quite a common experience, but a bride needs to learn to take care of her health even in stressful situations like these!
Us, ladies, we get it. We can support each other because we understand each other's anxiety as a bride to be. The most common worry among brides is makeup, apparently. No matter how beautiful you are if the makeup goes wrong, it can ruin your entire day. The wedding planning phase is beautiful and precious but it can also cause anxiety and lines on our foreheads because there is a huge amount of pressure to bring everything on the right track. Here are a few tips that might help you navigate through these uncharted waters!
Enjoy Your Planning!
Many people don’t like wedding planning but you should appreciate that this season is unique, it happens only once in a lifetime (preferably!) and this time will never come back! It is worth enjoying the moment. Just enjoy the ride, enjoy your partner and smile!
Whenever you have anxious thoughts, just tell yourself “I will not stress today. I'll postpone stressing until tomorrow." And tomorrow do the same! I know, this may sound funny, but it actually really works!
Take Time Off - And Don't Feel Guilty About It!
It is difficult to find time for yourself in the middle of planning and preparations but take a day off in between your busy days to refresh yourself. Keep your weekends (or at least one day of the weekend!) free. Play outdoor games, swim, go hike, go to a SPA, go on a short urban break, refresh yourself, exchange jokes - and then come back refreshed! Take a day off with your partner and don’t discuss strategies and planning.
Hobbies are the best way to release all tensions and anxieties, be it painting, dancing, sports. Nobody will remember that the shade of coral on your bouquet was not a 100% match with your mother in law's earrings - but they will notice your aged face! Take Care of Your Emotions, Soul and Spirit! The serenity prayer admits that we cannot control everything. In addition to taking care of your body, take care of your thoughts as well! "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Meditate, practice prayer (if you are a religious person), spend time with your friends, spend time with your pets. Dogs can alienate a lot of your anxiety with their loving personalities!
Don’t Try To Please Everyone!
As soon as you get engaged, otherwise well intended people, will try to sort out everything for you. People will share with you the experiences they had at their weddings, what the new hot trend is, Grandma's favorite dessert that cannot not be served and many other things they feel they should share with you. If you listen to all these suggestions, you will end up so confused! Keep yourself away from unnecessary suggestions. You don’t want to invite spoilers to your wedding, so enjoy a conversation with everyone but don’t necessarily follow their advice.
Accept it: something WILL go wrong, sideways, or at least not according to the plan. There will be something that will fall out of line and it will be upsetting. However, the details that fall between the cracks are indeed part of the wedding charm and will not ruin your day - they will just complement your hard work and create a great memory to be smiled at for years to come.
Create as many enjoyable moment as much as you can. Don't stress over what you cannot control. Do your best, work hard and play hard!
